Those Were the Days...

I love this photo. The jetty at the resort in Turkey we stayed in June 2008. I like to look at it to escape every now and then; it is so peaceful and perfect. It’s from our last holiday we had together just the two of us, before we had Baby V. Before I was even pregnant. We could just completely kick back and relax. Please ourselves, be totally lazy.

Actually we weren’t that lazy. We realised we really loved the quietness first thing in the morning so we became early risers. Going for a dip in the untouched sea. Sitting out reading while all around was still. And being the first at breakfast for the just baked bread and fresh coffee! Mmmm... I can smell it now.

We had an amazing time on our own. And yet there were glimpses of our life to come. We watched a family of 3 generations take it in turns chasing after their crawling baby. We looked on as a couple took their daughter for her first swim in the sea. I don’t remember that we actually discussed having children of our own but I know that the thought was there. Luckily, since 2 months later I was pregnant!

I cherish the memories of that holiday and a small part of me would like to go on such a selfish trip again. But the biggest part of me can’t wait to take Baby V away somewhere like that, on our first proper family holiday to the sun. Those were the days....but the best are yet to come!

This is my Gallery entry for this week's theme 'Holidays', go on over and marvel/go green with envy at all the fabulous entries.

As you said the best are yet to come when I get to take him away and start a new phase of holidaying! 4. Great post, reminds me of time spent watching parents on previous holidays chasing litte ones about and wishing I had one to do the same. Luckily I also realised I should appreciate the fact that I could lay on my backside all day reading and drinking too many cocktails as now I have a little one myself!

  5. How lovely and what lovely words, you see I am silently dreading taking Baba abroad just because he is so fair. Not looking forward to it. We are going to stick to this country first going away this year for our first holiday. You are so right, those memories are great but there are so many more and better memories to be made now we have children xx

  6. We had a lovely holiday in Turkey too before we had children. Travelling with them is also good, but definitely different!

  8. Emma - Me too! I miss the reading, even on days out now I always still pack my book but of course never manage to open it! x

andthenallithoughtaboutwasyou - I know how you feel I think Baby V has quite olive skin but I am absolutely paranoid about her going in the sun, its sunscreen and sun hats all the way lately! *whispers* quite relieved it's gone a bit cooler now.

Jen - I wasn't sure about it at all before we went the first time and now I can't wait to go again! Really love it :)
